A Tailored Model for Cyber Security Education Utilizing a Cyber Range
The threats posed by the digital space are a challenge for businesses, organisations and people that can no longer be met with pure knowledge. For this reason, all individuals have to demonstrate not only knowledge but also skills and competences in the field of cyber security. However, this presents an enormous challenge to higher education institutions (HEI) in terms of how to teach these competencies and skills to their students. In this paper, we present a new teaching method for cyber security (CS). It is based on the requirements and needs of educators and learners and integrates existing methodological approaches. This teaching method is complemented by the use of a cyber range as a central teaching tool to make the education more realistic. The method is not only applicable to technical programmes, it is applicable to all programmes and the focus is on cross-disciplinary training. This ensures that the teaching not only meets today’s requirements but also those of the future in the field of education.
