Soda (Service Oriented Database Architecture)
The main goal of this project was to create a proof-of-concept implementation to demonstrate how a distribution of database services can be realized. These services can be used, added and removed dynamically. Soda comes along with a set of base operators, like selection, projection, join, product and sort. The idea was to ”gridify” the processing of queries. Soda should be an open system allowing everyone to add operator algorithms to extend the query processing capabilities. But Soda can be used to answer further questions. Does a change of the infrastructure have a noticeable impact on the query execution? How does a change of the number of working services affect the query execution time? Does a change of the performance of a single service affect the query execution time? The architecture now builds a base to provide many possibilities.
